Intermediate node#

Overview#

An intermediate node is an optional node in the Automate hierarchy. It is located between the standard hierarchy nodes (provider, reseller, customer, and site).

Intermediate nodes can be used to logically group other nodes, and to restrict access by administrators to a defined subset of nodes. For example, intermediate nodes could be used to group customers by industry, or sites by geography.

When an intermediate node is created, an administrator is created for the intermediate node in a separate step. A default admin is not created for it.

Add an intermediate node#

This procedure adds an intermediate node.

  1. Log in as an administrator at the hierarchy where you want to create the intermediate node. For example, if adding an intermediate node to group sites, log in as the customer administrator.

  2. Go to the Intermediate Node page, then click the Plus icon (+) to add a new record.

  3. Fill out details for the new intermediate node:

    Field

    Description

    Name

The name of the node. This field is mandatory.

The name is read-only once it’s changed.

    Description

A description of the node (optional).

    Hierarchy node type

The type of hierarchy node you’re adding, either Hcs, IntermediateNode, LinkedSite, Provider, Reseller, or Site.

    Shadow

    .

  1. Save your changes to create the intermediate node in the hierarchy.

Next steps

  • Create a local administrator for the intermediate node.

  • Then create nodes underneath the intermediate node for the intermediate node local administrator to manage.
