Configure CUCM Groups
------------------------
Overview
..........
A Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) group contains a list of up
to three Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) servers (subscribers). These
servers are prioritized. The server marked with the lowest number (zero) serves
as the primary CUCM subscriber for that group, and the other members of the group serve
as secondary and tertiary (backup) CUCMs.
Each device pool has one CUCM group that is
assigned to it. When a device registers, it attempts to connect to the primary
CUCM subscriber in the group assigned to its device pool. If the primary CUCM is
unavailable, the device tries to connect to the next CUCM listed in the group,
and so on.
A single CUCM subscriber is usually assigned as primary for one CUCM group, and as secondary / tertiary
(if applicable) on other CUCM groups.
The table describes the value of CUCM groups for your system:
.. tabularcolumns:: |p{4cm}|p{11cm}|
+------------------------------------+----------------------------------------------------------+
| Benefit | Description |
+====================================+==========================================================+
| Redundancy | This feature enables you to designate a primary and |
| | backup CUCM subscriber servers for each group. |
+------------------------------------+----------------------------------------------------------+
| Call processing load balancing | This feature enables you to distribute the control of |
| | devices across multiple CUCM subscribers. |
+------------------------------------+----------------------------------------------------------+
For systems with a CUCM that includes multiple servers (subscribers), you are likely
to achieve better load distribution and redundancy.
Add, Edit, or Delete CUCM Groups
...................................
This procedure adds a new CUCM group, and edits and deletes an existing CUCM group.
**Prerequisites**:
* Before configuring a CUCM group, you must configure in the system
all the CUCM servers (subscribers) that you want to assign as
members of that group.
.. note::
After configuring the CUCM group, you can use it to configure
device pools. Devices obtain their CUCM group list setting from
the device pool to which they are assigned.
**Perform these steps**:
1. Log in to the Admin Portal as a Provider, Reseller, or Customer administrator.
.. note::
For Shared Architecture deployment, you must sign in only as a
Provider or Reseller admin as only Provider or Reseller admins can
add CUCMs.
2. If you are adding a new instance, ensure the hierarchy path is set to the
target node for the new instance.
3. Choose an option, depending on your admin role:
* If you signed in as the Provider or Reseller administrator, go to (default menus)
**Device Management > CUCM > Unified CM Groups**.
* If you signed in as the Customer administrator, go to (default menus)
**Device Management > Advanced > Unified CM Groups**.
4. Choose an option:
* To add a new CUCM group, click **Add**, then go to step 5.
* To edit an existing CUCM group, click on the relevant CUCM group in the list; then,
go to step 5.
5. Modify the following fields, as required:

| | |
| | Tip |
| | |
| | Each Cisco Unified Communications |
| | Manager cluster can have only one |
| | default auto-registration group. |
| | If you choose a different Cisco |

| | group, that is, you check the |

| | Unified Communications Manager |
| | Group check box for a different |

| | group, the previously chosen |
| | auto-registration group no longer |
| | serves as the default for the |
| | cluster; the Auto-registration |
| | Cisco Unified Communications |
| | Manager check box displays for the |
| | previously chosen group (the |
| | original default), and the check box|
| | gets disabled for the group that |
| | now serves as the default. |

6. Click **Save**.
If you added a new CUCM group, it now appears in the list of CUCM groups. Click on
a CUCM group in the list to view or modify its properties.
To delete a CUCM group, select the checkbox adjacent to the its name in the list, and
click **Delete**.
.. note::
To verify that the CUCM is deployed in Shared Mode:
* Go to (default menus) **Device Management > CUCM > Servers**.
* On the **Publisher** tab, verify that the Multi-Tenant field is set to Shared.
